A twenty first century classroom looks a lot different than it did twenty years ago. While I was going through school the focus was on the information provided from the textbooks. Each grade there was a required book to be read which never seemed to change. Classrooms today are moving towards the technology that is available. Through the internet alone there are many different sources available to support lessons taught in the classroom. The movement towards using technology is fun for children because they are “playing” with tools they are familiar with and enjoy using. One school has already gotten rid of textbooks and provided every student with an ipad. This school is making the move away from the traditional classroom and upgrading to the new way of learning.
Classrooms in the twenty first century include a high involvement of computer use. Computers are used to surf the web to support papers, projects, and other research that is needed. Teachers now use devices such as “elmos” to provide overhead projections of information to the whole class. The twenty first century classroom is all about using technology which students are familiar with to make learning more fun.
I agree with your post because I know that it is true of when we went to school. The book for each grade level has turned many students off to learning in the past. If we try to use new technology and new ways of doing projects through podcasts, or on iPads, students will have fun while they are learning. I think that computers will be more present then ever before in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post. I feel that now aday the classroom is becoming more technology savvy. I remember when I was in school and we used textbooks, pencils, papers and journals to do work. Now when I go into the classrooms I don't see as much use of the textbooks or even pencils. The students are now learning how to type on the computers- the one school I went to the teachers were talking about getting rid of teaching children how to write in cursive because as long as they can write and TYPE. There was no need for it. I just can't believe how far we have came in these centuries. I think schools are just going to have ipads for all there students to do work on instead of computers in the classroom- due to space.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post about using computers in the classroom more often. I kind of like the idea of getting rid of textbooks. Textbooks are expensive and teachers tend to lecture straight from them. With the help of computers we, as teachers, can make learning more active and enjoyable. Computers can help to reach ALL students. I'm excited about how to find different ways to get my students INVOLVED in their learning.
ReplyDeleteI really like the way that you talked about the materials. I too was use to reading from textbooks in my elementary school. But now it is very true that the way materias are manipulated is very different. I agree with everything Alli said about technology. Even in the last year thigns have really esculated with what is avalible to teachers.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you talked about schools and how they were when we were in elementary school. I hadn't even thought about that aspect of it. i was also glad you brought it to my attention in your comment to my blog. I completely agree with the transition the schools are making. I guess I am slighly nervouse however, because I am not a huge fan of all the high-tech tools out there. I have never really been a fan of computers and maybe that is because I try to avoid them. On the other hand we will all have to get used to them and how to work them because it is and will continue to become what they schools based everything on.
